Hat Factor

Love hats? Want to be the new Philip Treacy or Stephen Jones? If so, you could win the chance to be part of London 2012 Festival, in celebration of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games – plus have your designs featured in Grazia Magazine.

On Friday 30 March at 9.30am our friends at Grazia are launching Hat Factor, a major fashion talent search to find the UK’s next big hat star. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to play a key role in the biggest festival the UK has ever seen.

To enter, you can be a fashion student, milliner, designer who’s just starting out – or you could just have a creative twinkle in your eye.

On the day of the Hat Factor, bring your designs to the offices of Grazia in London and show them before a judging panel of Grazia editors, the UK’s top milliners Philip Treacy and Stephen Jones, and industry experts. Tt’s all about demonstrating your own creativity, skill and imagination!

Just bring your entry along with you – this can be a finished hat that’s ready to wear, a prototype or simply an idea you have sketched on a piece of pape – but make sure it’s impactful, eye-catching and something you want to showcase on a global scale.

The winner will be asked to create their design. Details of how the design will be showcased is top secret right now (but what we will say is it’s going to be really special!), and will be revealed to the winner once they have been notified. So what are you waiting for?

The judging panel

Philip Treacy
Philip has made hats for all the key designers, and has been awarded the title of British Accessory Designer of the Year five times. Thirty six of his hats were worn at the royal wedding last year – including Princess Beatrice’s famous creation!

Stephen Jones
Stephen has created hats for the shows of many fashion industry greats. He’s the go-to milliner of the A-list, and has designed for everyone from Princess Diana to Kylie Minogue and Dita Von Teese. He is a great supporter of up-and-
coming milliners.

Justine Simons
Head of cultural policy, Mayor of London’s office.

Caroline Rush
Joint chief executive, British Fashion Council and Fashion 2012, the British fashion industry’s flagship artistic project for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This project aims to showcase British fashion designers and artists on a global scale.

Paula Reed
Style director, Grazia.

Jane Bruton
Editor-in-chief, Grazia.
