Next week in Soapland, there’s a life and death drama, a father and son lock horns, and a funeral has dramatic repercussions…

Coronation Street

The New Year gets off to a spectacularly bad start for knickerstitcher Fiz when a leak of deadly carbon monoxide leaves her fighting for life. In nail-biting scenes to be aired on New Year’s Eve, lover Tyrone finds her unconscious at home. He was the one who tried to fix Fiz’s broken gas boiler, so naturally he can’t help blaming himself for this unfortunate turn of events.

Fiz pays the price for Ty’s shoddy workmanship

As Fiz is rushed to hospital in a critical condition, a distraught Tyrone is horrified at the thought of losing yet another person he loves. To make matters worse, he has to pretend he doesn’t care that she’s in a bad way, so his short-fused fiancée Kirsty won’t smell a rat. Will Fiz pull through? If she doesn’t, I’ll be staging a one-woman protest outside Granada Studios…

Fiz’s nearest and dearest gather at the hospital

Elsewhere, Lewis is determined to get his revenge on Gail, blaming her for his painful break-up with Audrey. After spotting his ex on a date he decides to play her at her own game and makes a move on Gail. Before long, the gullible mum of three has fallen for his silky smooth charms. Let’s just hope she comes to her senses before it’s too late…

Lewis makes a play for a gobsmacked Gail

In other news, it looks like Carla’s got the measure of Rob, when she discovers that someone’s cooked the books at Underworld, resulting in the factory’s low valuation. While Michelle starts to panic, Rob insists they can ride out the crisis – and, as relations between the business partners reach breaking point, the whole future of Gussetworld hangs in the balance.

Is Rob’s double dealing about to come to light?

Emmerdale

Confectionery king Jai finds himself in a very sticky situation when interfering dad Rishi sticks his oar in once too often. It all kicks off when Rishi pays a visit to his son’s baby mother Rachel and warns her to stay away from Jai.

Jai nearly comes to blows with dad Rishi

As soon as Jai gets wind of his dad’s meddling he loses it and pins him to the wall at t’factory, just as wife Charity walks in. When Charity demands to know what’s going on, Jai comes up with a flimsy excuse – but Charity wasn’t born yesterday and tells her horrified hubby she’s off to stay with Zak and Lisa until he sorts his head out.

Will Charity discover the extent of Jai’s deceit?

Determined to get to the bottom of Jai’s dark moods, Charity corners Rachel and offers her money for information about Jai, explaining that as the factory cleaner, she must be privy to all sorts of goings on (if only Charity knew the half of it!). Meanwhile, a squirming Jai watches from across the street…

Charity attempts to bribe Rachel into spilling the beans

Elsewhere, a jealous Cain sabotages Moira’s hot date with Dom by pinching his love rival’s motorbike. When Moira sees ‘Dom’ arrive on his bike, she promptly gets on the back, believing her date is under the visor.

Cain and Moira go full throttle

After speeding off with his prey, crafty Cain pulls into a layby and removes his helmet, revealing his true identity. Is Moira pleased? Let’s just say she doesn’t put up much of a fight when Cain leads her to the nearest barn…

EastEnders

Alfie’s just found out that wife Kat has been having it away with Mr Pudding Face (aka Derek Branning), so who can blame him for giving his cheating missus a taste of her own medicine? The action begins after Alfie enjoys a Christmas Day snog under the mistletoe with old friend Roxy, who’s never made any secret of her affection for him.

Alfie can hardly contain his glee on New Year’s Eve

By the time New Year’s Eve rolls around, the smile on Alfie’s face is wider than the Blackwall Tunnel, as he celebrates with Roxy in the Vic. And before the night is through, the lovestruck pair are making plans to move in together – much to Kat’s disgust. Ah well, you’ve only got yourself to blame, love…

The future looks bright for Alfie and Roxy

Meanwhile, the Branning brigade are in sombre mood as they say goodbye to dear, departed Derek. As the hearse pulls up outside No. 23, the whole of Albert Square falls silent – until, that is, Poppy hands Carol a letter addressed to her that was found among Derek’s effects. After opening the mysterious missive, a stunned Carol suddenly runs back into the Butchers’ house, slamming the door behind her.

Cora delivers a few home truths at Derek’s funeral

With Carol absent from the funeral, it falls to Cora to give the eulogy. As she delivers a searingly honest account of Derek, a grief-stricken Joey flees from the church – and when Alice tries to comfort him, he lets slip a shocking secret that leaves his sister reeling.

Joey prepares to drop a bombshell on Alice

In other news, Sharon is spoilt for choice when she receives not one, but two marriage proposals. Who will she pick – Jack or Phil? Sorry, soap fans, it’s simply too close to call…

Phil asks Sharon to marry him – and this time it’s for real
