Who will you torment this year on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here?
As an annual event, it’s as familiar as the first daffodil of the year, the torrential rain of summer and the first mealy mouthful of turkey on Christmas Day. Yes, it’s the time of year when we select a celebrity victim and ruthlessly torment them on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.
Here are your top five victims to date:
Natalie Appleton – 2004
After crying “I’ve touched a tree!” in horror on her first day, the British public saw a willing victim, and poor Natalie’s dance card was marked. She sobbed and whimpered her way through four Bushtucker Trials, then ran off crying before she had to face a (then) record fifth.
Jan Leeming – 2006
Here is the news: the British public like seeing Jan Leeming suffer. Among poor Jan’s six Bushtucker Trials, she was lowered into a dark tunnel with bugs, shut in a box with snakes, thrown out of a plane at 14,000 feet and forced to eat vomit fruit and a witchety grub smoothie. She rather pickily turned down the offer of kangaroo’s eye, tongue, anus and reproductive organs.
Janice Dickinson – 2007
Janice’s record ten Bushtucker Trials still stands. To detail them all would take a chronicler of Homer’s stature. Needless to say, the viewers of series seven are a mean bunch indeed, with a predilection for seeing shouty ex-supermodels suffer.
Katie ‘Jordan’ Price – 2009
Katie’s return to the jungle for ‘closure’ following the end of her marriage to Peter Andre was possibly not the PR success she was seeking. The British public voted repeatedly for her, and she endured six Bushtucker Trials, involving the usual rounds of bug-coverage, slime pouring and unusual cuisine, before wobbling off in a strop ahead of her seventh trial.
Gillian McKeith – 2010
Last year, the British public put all of their collective energy into torturing poor Gillian with all sorts of nasties. She (rather theatrically) fainted at the prospect of a bug-filled box, and flatly refused to dine on worms, rotten eggs and kangaroo penis. Her iron will was more than red rag to a bull for the viewing public, who tested her with multiple trials till her resolve broke, and she beat a hasty path out of the jungle, clutching her bags of spices (which were previously hidden in her bloomers) Brr.

So who will you choose to torment mercilessly this year? Will you pick on TOWIE’s Mark Wright to avenge all the Essex girls he’s wronged? Or will madcap Freddie Starr feel the force of your ire? Or will you pick on lovely, twinkly-eyed Willie Carson, just because you’re feeling extra cruel?
I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here – ITV1, Sunday 13 November at 9pm
