This week saw a new task in the history of The Apprentice. The candidates had to design and license a new exercise concept.

I think it’s always good to see new tasks on the show as it enables us to learn about new businesses (I always wondered how gym classes make money). Of course it’s also more interesting for the viewers.

I thought Ricky’s team, who came up with Beat Battle, were unlucky to lose the task in the end. While they sold less, their street dance/martial arts concept was clearly more viable as a longer term business opportunity. Especially as only one gym wanted the other team’s product, Groove Train (a retro dance exercise with space hoppers, skipping ropers and hula hoops) and even that was only to develop the concept further with no firm commitment to buy.

Ricky seemed like a good enough project manager so it was a shame that they lost. On the other team, Stephen was an absolute mess. Considering he works in the industry, he seemed to have a complete lack of understanding of basic concepts like storage and I thought making up prices was in poor form. He also didn’t seem to grasp that the equipment wouldn’t just be a one off purchase and that it would need maintenance, cleaning and replacement – this would result in more work and cost for the gym.

The prize for most committed candidate definitely goes to Azhar. His video was hilarious with his sneeringly pouty face, passionate grooves and wooden script. But well done for giving it a go Azhar!

But the key question in our household last night was how much longer Adam would last. He is definitely appearing to be out of his depth, and apart from the consistent complaining, he seems to add little to the tasks. Yet it was founder of drinks distribution company Duane on the other team who got the boot this week.

Next week, the show returns to an oldie-but-a-goodie task, catering to the public, and this time the people of London are spared as the teams are set loose on the unsuspecting folk of Scotland!

Which would you sign up for at your gym – Beat Battle or Groove Train? Did Duane deserve to go? Let us know below.
