Tyrone, Kirsty and bruise

Next week in Soapland, an abusive relationship takes a shocking twist, a bride and groom receive some devastating news on their wedding day, and a long-suffering girlfriend takes the plunge…

Coronation Street

Kirsty takes a tumble

After weeks of using fiancée Tyrone as a human punchbag, Kirsty finally agrees to seek help for her, ahem, anger management issues. But when the time comes for her appointment with Dr Carter, the pregnant factory worker gets cold feet. After concocting an excuse, she flees the surgery, leaving receptionist Deirdre bemused.

When Tyrone hears about Kirsty’s disappearing act, he immediately confronts his fiancée and a blazing row breaks out in the back yard at No.9. Kirsty tries to grab Tyrone, but he pushes her away, causing her to stumble and sustain an injury of her own – just as Deirdre walks in.

Tyrone is horrified to discover Kirsty’s leaving him

Before long, Deirdre’s putting two and two together to make five (ah well, maths never was her strong point) and comes to the conclusion that Tyrone’s been beating Kirsty… oh, the irony! Meanwhile, Tyrone realises he can’t miss out on being a dad for the second time and resolves to do whatever it takes to save his relationship. Unfortunately, Kirsty has a nasty shock in store for him: she’s slinging her hook for good (good riddance, if you ask me).

Cripes! So Tracy wasn’t lying about her illness after all…

Elsewhere, Emily finally loses patience with temperamental tenant Tracy and evicts her from No.3. Now homeless, Tracy seeks refuge with her parents, claiming to be ill. But when a disbelieving Ken refuses to bail her out yet again, she’s forced to move in with Beth. By the end of the week, however, Tracy’s health takes a dramatic turn for the worst and she collapses unconscious.

The Barlows keep an anxious vigil

At Weatherfield General, doctors diagnose a severe kidney infection and the stunned Barlows are forced to confront the possibility that Tracy’s one remaining kidney may be failing. Gasp!

Ryan has a rendezvous with his dealer

Meanwhile, proverbial black sheep Ryan shows no sign of turning over a new leaf when he steals a wad of cash from Michelle’s handbag and uses it to score some coke. Sigh… are there no depths that boy won’t sink to?

Emmerdale

It’s the happiest day of Paddy and Rhona’s lives…

Weddings in Soapland are frequently fraught affairs – and the long-awaited nuptials of Paddy and Rhona are no exception. The drama begins when Marlon decides it’s high time he stood up to the couple over their plans to move to New Zealand with little Leo.

The trio had originally been planning to make the move together, but now that he’s rekindled his romance with Laurel, Marlon has had a change of heart and decided to stay in Emmerdale. Determined to do everything in his power to stop Paddy and Rhona taking his son away, the gangly chef leaves Paddy devastated when he resigns as best man, just days before the wedding.

…Until Marlon drops a massive bombshell

Having sought advice from a solicitor, who assures him he has a strong case for keeping Leo in the country, Marlon makes a surprise appearance at the wedding. But at the reception, instead of delivering his best man’s speech, he reveals he’s applied for a court order, ensuring that Leo won’t be moving to the other side of the world after all. As wedding presents go, it’s certainly more original than a toaster!

Charity browses a magazine in blissful ignorance

Elsewhere, Rachel is furious to discover Jai still hasn’t told Charity he’s impregnated another woman – and quite frankly, who can blame him? In a bid to pacify the mum-to-be, Jai offers to pay the rent on a posh flat in Leeds for her and the little ’un.

Has Jai got an offer Rachel can’t refuse?

At first, Rachel insists that she and the baby are not for sale, but later she decides she will take the confectionery mogul’s hard-earned cash after all – as well a lifetime’s supply of Aniseed Balls (okay, so I made that last bit up). However, Jai’s initial delight at his employee’s change of heart soon wanes when it becomes clear she has very firm ideas about where she will and won’t live.

Moira and Alex get up close and personal

In other news, Moira and Alex give in to temptation when they share a passionate kiss (about time too), and the Kings’ attempt to take on Charity in the wake of her triumph with the Strikes contract fails miserably.

EastEnders

Don’t look down, Shirley!

Albert Square’s Shirley Carter is terrified of heights – but she has high hopes when she pops the question to on-off boyfriend Phil during a charity abseil. The big-hearted mum-of-two has decided to make the daring descent from the roof of the Queen Vic during a fun day to raise cash for little George’s trust fund following the death of his mum Heather.

When Shirley gets last-minute jitters and does a runner, it’s Phil who chases after her and urges her to conquer her fear once and for all. As she reluctantly makes her way to the rooftop with Phil at her side, Shirley expresses her fear that, after best mate Heather’s untimely departure, no one loves her. Displaying a rare sensitivity, Phil is quick to reassure her that both he and son Ben need her in their lives.

The whole of Albert Square watches with baited breath

Moments later, as Shirley nervously stands on the edge of the roof with a crowd of supporters watching from below, she takes the plunge and blurts out, “Marry me, Phil!”, leaving the smooth-craniumed hardman speechless. Will Philthy say “yes”? He darn well ought to… let’s face it, he’s not going to get a better offer any time soon.

A woolly hat in August? Oh, Ian!

In other news, poor Ian is still confused and suffering from memory loss – much to Phil’s relief. Hoping that a visit to Lucy will help improve his condition, Ben takes his beardy big bro over to the café. But his cunning plan backfires bigtime when Lucy has a go at her dad for abandoning the family, forcing Joey to guide a dazed Ian out in front of shocked onlookers.

Kat puts in a booty call – but who’s the lucky man?

Elsewhere, Krafty Kat is still playing away from home, as she dials her mystery lover’s number and arranges a raunchy rendezvous. Meanwhile, Ray is in the market, buying flowers – could they be for a new feline friend?

Is moody Michael Kat’s secret lover?

But hang on a minute… there’s Michael on the other side of the Square, slipping his phone in his pocket as he arrives home to Janine. Where the heckety-heck has he been, and was he on the phone to a purr-fect brunette? Aarghhhh…. the suspense is killing me!
