JR, Bobby and Sue Ellen are back and as usual they mean business…

During the 80s, Texan oil drama Dallas was one of the most watched TV shows across the world.

The classic drama gripped viewers each week with the latest machinations from evil JR Ewing (played by Larry Hagman, pictured above) and his embattled brother Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy) over the family fortune. “Who shot JR?” was a question bandied about living rooms worldwide.

It was outrageous. It was tacky. It was great.

Now a new version of the show, starring many of the original cast, has begun airing in the US, if not to great critical acclaim then at least to a sizeable audience. The first show secured a healthy 6.8 million viewers on cable channel TNT. The fascination for family rivalry on Southfork ranch continues, 21 years after the original show ended.

The revamp follows a new generation of Ewings centred around former Desperate Housewives gardener Jesse Metcalfe who plays Christoper Ewing, who is at war with his cousin John Ross Ewing (Josh Henderson) over the family fortune. Sound familiar?

TNT announced this week that they have ordered a second series of the hit show for the States. UK audiences will have to wait until 5th September to watch the first 10 part series on Channel 5.
