Ouch! It’s (real) blood on the dance floor at Dancing on Ice
At what point does a celebrity taking part in Dancing on Ice think it might not be worth the pain? When your limbs are aching from practising all those lifts? When you get put in the Skate Off for the fourth week running? Or when you gash your head open with your own ice skate on live TV?
Well, for scouser skater Jennifer Ellison, this final fate became a reality on last night’s show. During a performance to Peggy Lee’s “Fever”, an acrobatic “scorpion kick” saw her own razor-sharp skate whack the top of her head – leaving her hair sopping with blood.
Luckily, despite the dramatic nature of the accident, it seems that the wound was not serious and we’re hopeful that Jennifer will return to skate next week.
Accidents aside, the star of the Valentine’s themed show was clearly Hollyoaks’ Jorgie Porter. She delivered a stunning performance to Alicia Keys’ “Fallin’” to get 26.0 – the highest score of the series to date. And, it was obvious that the judges were champing at the bit to award her more: “I’d have given 10 [out of 10]“, gushed flamboyant Louie Spence, “but I had to hold something back!”

The other shock of the night was that Emmerdale’s Matthew Wolfenden was bumped down into number three position, after coming first or second in the leaderboard week in week out. In fact, this performance saw his overall average score dip below Jorgie for the first time.
Talent show contestant Chico leapfrogged Matthew to get second place, after a romantic routine to Nat King Cole’s “L-O-V-E”, while freerunner Sébastien Foucan also put in a touching performance to “My Cherie Amour”.

Skating on thin ice this week were Sugababes’ Heidi Range and health and fitness matriarch Rosemary Conley – in the danger zone in the bottom two. However, the viewers’ votes saved Heidi and placed British skiing champion Chemmy Alcott in the Skate Off with Rosemary. But, Chemmy’s sexy routine knocked spots off Rosemary’s more pedestrian performance. All that was left was for the queen of the diet industry to collect her bouquet of flowers from Chris and Jayne and wave “hip and thigh”. (That’s cockney rhyming slang for “goodbye”. Probably.)
Next week promises to present the skating stars their greatest challenge yet. Each contestant will be required to include no less than 23 separate moves in their routines. What’s more, not one but two celebrities will be voted off the show. I bet quite a few of the remaining celebs are – literally – quaking in their boots…
