Strictly new judge

After months of speculation the BBC has announced Alesha Dixon’s replacement on the Strictly Come Dancing judging panel.

And they’ve gone for gravitas as it’s none other than… Darcey Bussell, former principal dancer at the Royal Ballet.

“I had such a lovely experience in 2009 when I was a guest judge, that coming on board now feels very natural,” she said.

“Strictly combines quality dance and great entertainment, which is such a positive for everybody involved. I am very excited and really looking forward to being part of the Strictly team.”

Bussell, 42, (born Marnie Mercedes Darcey Pembleton Crittle) performed with the Royal Ballet for 19 years before retiring in 2007. She is widely recognised as one of the greatest British ballerinas.

Alesha Dixon made the controversial move to defect from BBC1′s Strictly to ITV1′s Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year, after judging on three series of the show.

Bussell will join Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli on the panel when the tenth series of Strictly returns in autumn.
