Messi

Being the best player in the world at the world’s best team sounds good, doesn’t it? All that winning, all those trophies, all that adulation. Just imagine the sort of highs Lionel Messi must experience on a weekly basis.

But there must come a point where the amount of satisfaction you derive from success starts to wane. When actually winning yet another La Liga title or Champions League trophy simply becomes routine. Still a high, but a short-lived one.

Messi is only 25 and any hankerings he might get to leave Barcelona for a new experience are probably at least several years away. But just imagine it. Imagine if Messi did decide he’d had enough of winning everything at Barcelona and fancied a new challenge, in a new country.

This is exactly what The Football Ramble’s Jim Campbell has been discussing for us this week: if Messi got bored of life at Barcelona, where would he go?

And the encouraging answer for all us Premier League fans is most likely here. To England. Have a read to find out why and which clubs in particular he’d most likely end up at.

Barcelona’s bitter Spanish rivals, Real Madrid, were this week up against Manchester City in the Champions League, of course. After throwing away a 2-1 lead, Roberto Mancini then threw his toys out the pram after hearing Joe Hart’s assessment that the City players had let themselves down.

The Life’s a Pitch panellists discuss Mancini’s increasing tendency for overemotional responses to defeat and his cautious tactics at the Bernebéu.

Elsewhere, Musa Okwonga looks at the precarious position that Nani finds himself in at Old Trafford, we discuss whether Steve Kean will be Blackburn manager for ever, plus we round-up all the most exciting transfer news.
