ITV’s children’s brand CITV celebrates its 30th birthday this month and to mark the milestone, the CITV channel is to host an action-packed ‘Old Skool’ themed weekend starting this Saturday.

From 9:25am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday, CITV will screen a range of retro classics from the 80s and 90s including Art Attack, Jungle Run, Sooty & Co (main image), Fun House and even the 90s version of The Tomorrow People.

Viewers will be able to enjoy old classics for over 9 hours on each day, and those with young kids can even share their experiences, giving their children a taste of their generation’s television.

Other shows scheduled to be broadcast on the one-off weekend include The Worst Witch and hit drama Children’s Ward, well known for launching the acting careers of Coronation Street’s Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson), Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) and Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold).

Episodes of Press Gang, the 1989 drama that launched the writing career of current Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat, will be aired on Saturday. Both Press Gang and Children’s Ward won BAFTA awards during their screen runs.

“We are very proud of CITV’s heritage, and look forward to bringing back all the old favourites for this one-off, not to be missed event and show the kids what their parents watched when they were young!,” said CITV’s Head of Programming Jamila Metran.

Children’s ITV launched on January 3 1983 broadcasting pre-recorded children’s television. Then, four years later, Children’s ITV entered the territory of live television with output presented by Gary Terzza and Debbie Shore. The digital channel, now known as CITV arrived in 2006, and has grown to become the biggest children’s channel in the UK.
