Next week in Soapland, it’s three weddings and a funeral, plus a pregnancy causes a family rift, and the bailiffs come-a calling…

Emmerdale

It’s Emmerdale’s 40th birthday and an ill wind is blowing through t’village, ruffling tempers, spooking livestock and upsetting the weft of Diane’s best wig.

It’s a rocky road to the altar for Chas

As the day of her wedding to Dan dawns, Chas makes a surprising declaration to ex-fiancé Carl. Terrified the ruthless businessman will expose her fling with Cameron unless he gets what he wants, Chas manages to convince him she’s willing to give their relationship another go – but first she wants time to break up with Dan in her own way.

Chas confronts Katie in the battle of the brides

In the next stage of her cunning plan, Chas asks fellow bride Katie if she and Dan can tie the knot first, explaining that she’s feeling anxious and wants the ceremony over and done with as soon as possible. But Katie’s in no mood for compromise and, after a full-scale slanging match between the two bridezillas, the joint reception is called off.

Cameron finds Chas dusting off her passport

Later, Cameron sneaks away to see Chas at the Woolpack, keen to find out if she’s come to a resolution with Carl. He’s stunned when she reveals she’s lied to Carl and is secretly planning to flee the village with Dan the minute the wedding’s over. Realising Chas’s scheme will leave him horribly exposed, a panicking Cameron tries – and fails – to talk her out of it.

Is the next generation of Dingles about to arrive?

Meanwhile, on the very day she was due to be induced, Debbie goes into labour. With boyfriend Cameron nowhere to be found, it’s up to Zak and Cain to get her hospital. Unfortunately, Cain’s car breaks down en route (only in Soapland, eh?) and he’s forced to dial 999. By a strange coincidence, it looks as if wedding guest Gennie is also about to hear the patter of tiny feet…

Whatever you do, Gennie, don’t push!

As night falls on one of the most dramatic days in Emmerdale’s history (all played out in a thrilling live episode on Wednesday), there’s one more shock in store, when the village is rocked by an untimely death. The tight-lipped folk at Yorkshire TV are refusing to reveal which unlucky soul is heading to the great soap opera in the sky, but portly pensioner Alan Turner is the bookies’ favourite…

Look out for our special review on Thursday morning of all the drama from the live episode airing at 7pm, Wednesday 17th October.

EastEnders

Wedding bells are also chiming in Albert Square, as Christian and Syed prepare to say ‘I do’. But, as the day of their civil partnership arrives, Syed’s in a right old tizz after gambling his family’s cash away and snogging city smoothie Danny. Unable to cope with the guilt, he tells a stunned Christian he can’t marry him.

Syed has some bad news for Christian

Striking his best orphaned-puppy dog expression, Christian urges Syed to come clean with him – and gets more than he bargained for when Syed admits that not only is he in deep financial doo-doo, but he’s also been unfaithful. Amazingly, Christian is prepared to overlook Syed’s misdemeanours and promises he’ll be waiting at the altar – but he insists Syed should only come if he truly loves him.

Has Syed got cold feet?

Later, at the wedding venue (the Argee Bhajee, no less), Christian’s face lights up like a 100-watt bulb as Syed puts in an appearance. But just as the music starts, Syed suddenly gets cold feet and freezes. Will he be able to pull himself together and walk down the aisle? Course he will!

Christian and Syed become husband and husband

But before the happy couple can walk off into the sunset, there’s more drama in store as four burly bailiffs gatecrash the reception and announce that the Masoods’ mortgage is four months in arrears and they’ve come to cut off the electricity. Shocked by the revelation, a furious Zainab launches herself at youngest son Tamwar, demanding to know what’s going on. Realising who’s really to blame, Christian turns to Syed – and is horrified to find his new husband is nowhere to be seen. Gulp.

Tamwar finds himself with an awful lot of explaining to do…

In other news, Denise finds herself fighting off not one, but two admirers, in the shape of Fatboy and AJ. Which lucky lad will end up stealing her heart and warming her bed? The clue’s in the picture…

Aah, don’t they make a lovely couple?

Coronation Street

For Tracy Barlow, a day not drenched in scheming is a day very much wasted and next week the wicked witch of the north west presses ahead with her plans to drive a wedge between Michelle and Steve. At the start of the week, Ryan’s still reeling from Tracy’s pregnancy announcement and terrified at the thought of becoming a dad.

Will Steve and Michelle survive Tracy’s meddling?

But after discovering that Steve has offered to pay for a termination, an appalled Ryan insists he’s standing by Tracy and they’ll raise the baby together. While Deirdre promises to give the young couple her full support, a devastated Michelle blames Steve for the whole ugly mess – and, as their relationship hangs in the balance, it looks as if Tracy’s machinations have paid off.

Ryan reveals he’s quitting the cobbles

Later, at the factory, Michelle is at her wits’ end when she catches the machinists gossiping about her. Worse is to come when Ryan and Tracy arrive and announce that, in a bid to prevent any further acrimony, they’ve moving to Glasgow (good riddance, I say).

Steve makes a surprising offer to Ryan and Tracy

Steve, however, is determined to heal the rift and heads over to the Barlows’ with a surprising suggestion: Ryan and Tracy should move into the flat with him and Michelle. Talk about a glutton for punishment…

Stella meets her new house guest

Elsewhere, Gloria’s plans to win the Pub of the Year competition gain momentum when she turns the Rovers into a B&B behind daughter Stella’s back. With Stella safely away at a hen party in Dublin, Gloria lavishes her inaugural guest with attention, convinced he’s one of the competition’s reviewers. But, when Stella returns earlier than unexpected, she’s not best pleased to find a strange fella making himself at home in her living room.

Mandy and Lloyd share a tender moment

In other news, old passions resurface for Lloyd and Mandy. Could unlucky-in-love Lloyd finally be on the way to finding the happy family he’s always dreamed of? Here’s hoping…
