Dancing on Ice: Samia gets the boot in props week
It was week 8 on Dancing on Ice last night and that can only mean one thing…time to bring out the props!
In order to bag them a place in next week’s semi-final, the five remaining skaters who are still (just about) standing, get to dance with hats, chairs, or whatever else takes their fancy.
However, the journey all came to an abrupt end for Samia as she became the eighth contestant to leave the competition.
The Coronation Street star left the show, with Phil saying she ‘picked up lots of things while she’s been here’ (a nice little Sylvain reference there of course).
But how did the five finalists fare?
Hats off to Matt
He topped the leaderboard last week and Matt Lapinskas just seems to be going from strength to strength with his skating. After his hat-trick routine last night, in which he used not one but three hats, the judges were more than impressed and eventually awarded him a massive score of 36 – the highest of the series so far. Pretty good going considering ‘hats can be tricky’ according to Ashley (she’s used them before!)
It’s all kicking off for Gareth
Who ever knew a rugby ball could be made elegant? Well according to Robin, Gareth did just that! Coming in second place on the leaderboard to Matt, he paid homage to his rugby career by performing with a rugby ball. He was awarded a total of 34.5 by the judges and received a number of positive comments and a place in next week’s semi-final.
Luke jumps for joy
Luke used a skipping rope as his prop last night and this seemed to go down well with the judges and the audience alike. However, Luke’s fun routine failed to save him from the dreaded skate off but he battled through it to skate another week.
Beth was born this way
Beth skated her way into the semi-final to Lady Gaga’s catchy tune ‘Born this Way’. Using a hula-hoop as her prop (which was apparently meant to reflect her profession), she received mixed comments from the judges, with Jason claiming that she lacked personality (how many times has he said that to the poor girl now?). However, she ended up with a respectable score of 30 so what does Jason really know anyway?
Hair today, gone tommorow
Samia Ghadie used a chair as prop as a nod to her Coronation Street character, Maria Connor. Jason apparently loves her hair (he has ‘hair envy’) but that wasn’t enough to save her and after a painful skate off with Luke (she had groin strain), Samia’s time came to a bitter end. But she will stay ‘friends’ with Sylvain apparently…
So, with Samia gone, that leaves Matt, Beth, Gareth and Luke to battle it out next week for a place in the all-important final. But who will fall at the final hurdle?
What did you make of last night’s Dancing on Ice? Did you think it was time for Samia to go? Let us know below.
