Joe Pasquale

It was love on the dance floor last night but despite all the ‘romance’, it was the ‘bromance’ of Joe Pasquale and Keith Chegwin that came to a very bittersweet end as they went head to head in the skate off.

However, the judges all chose to save Keith, meaning Joe becomes the sixth person to be voted out of the competition.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it was inevitable that Dancing on Ice was going to follow suit and present a love theme this week. Cue, lots of cheesy dances, lots of love songs, lots of pink, sparkly costumes. I bet Samia and Sylvain were really looking forward to this week…

But as we know, the course of true love never runs smoothly (especially when you are literally skating on ice!). But who was a dream? And who was a nightmare?

Love’s Young Dream

Gareth Thomas topped the leader board last night after a slow skate to Labrinth and Emeli Sande’s ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’. Jane Torvill described the routine as “challenging” but Gareth was determined to perfect every detail, even using elastic bands to straighten his hands out. His determination clearly paid off, and he earned a very respectable score of 30 from the judges – his highest score of the series so far and the eventual highest score of the night.

Another high flier last night, was gymnast Beth. She closed the show with an energetic routine dancing to Rhianna’s hit anthem, ‘We Found Love’. She finished her performance with a very daring move, pulled off to perfection. The judges rewarded her efforts with a decent score of 29.5.

The Nightmare

Given the rumours that have been flying around endlessly, last night’s theme of ‘Love Week’ should have been very easy for Samia and Sylvian! So what went wrong exactly? Christine Bleakley introduced them by wondering whether Samia and Sylvain would heat things up on the dance floor. However, once the pair had skated, the judges were left cold, saying that Samia needed to skate more on her own and let go of her partner. Samia responded by saying: “It’s love week, we are supposed to be together aren’t we?” Well, this was all a bit awkward, Samia, isn’t it?

Joe performed to Michael Holliday and Edna Savage’s ‘Tiptoe Through The Tulips’. He received his highest score to date of 18.5 and nailed two lifts, but it wasn’t enough to save him from the dreaded skate-off and his fate was sealed. Well one thing is for sure, Keith definitely isn’t the only one that is going to miss Joe…

What did you make of ‘Love Week’? Did you think Joe should have gone?
