Alex - fired

Will you be downloading the Slangatang app? No, probably not. And that was the conclusion many other app users came to, which eventually led to the firing of Alex Britez Cabral last night.

The 28-year-old London estate agent admitted his plan was to keep his head down during the early stages of the competition, but then ironically found himself ousted for doing too little.

The two teams were set the task of designing a mobile phone app and were judged on the number of downloads.

The girls’ team – Venture – designed ‘Ambi Apps’, an app you can download to, um, play annoying noises. Arguably, one of the most annoying noises came from the mouth of tough project manager Edna.

Offensive app?

The boys – Logic – led by project manager Leon Doyle, found their ‘Slangatang’ app achieved only a third of their rivals’ download total. Some customers – and crucially, one of the websites promoting the apps – found it offensive, due to its use of stereotyped regional accents.

Alex managed a strangulated Welsh accent and lots of talk about his ‘farm’ and ‘sheep’. Cue much hilarity from his team-mates.

But the laughs didn’t last long, and finding himself in the boardroom against Glenn and Leon, Alex suddenly found his true voice and started an impassioned defence of his behaviour. Sadly it wasn’t enough to save him – and Lord Sugar pointed ‘the finger’ at him, saying:

“The thing that is worrying me is that if you get lost and think I’m going to do all of the work you can forget it, that’s not going to happen.”

Best of last night’s episode
