What would Darth Vader think?
If it’s news and opinions you want, told by the Dark Lord of the Sith, then read on.
One of my new favourite things has been to start following numerous personalities on Twitter. Now, before you start crying “Lame! Everyone’s been doing that for at least 2 years!” let me explain.
These personalities are not Ashton Kutcher, Victora Beckham or Rio Ferdinand, oh no, they are those fictional characters from film and pop culture that have managed to find an Internet connection and register a Twitter account.
These intrepid Tweeters manage to comment on the latest news, trends and fashions, all from the point of view of their character, which adds a whole new dimension to hearing the latest on Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian or the Euro crisis.
I’ve listed only some of my favourites below but there are many more out there and you don’t have to look far to find them (warning – if you do decide to follow them, be wary of extreme cynicism and strong language from time to time!).
Darth Vader
@DepressedDarth 113,000 followers
Poor Darth, he’s had a bad time since Luke found him. And all that stress from moving sides of the Force must take it’s toll somehow.
The Batman
@God_Damn_Batman 290,000 followers
Batman often wonders why his iPad doesn’t work just like a bat-a-rang and hunts out the underbelly of society via his forboding tweets.
Statler and Waldorf
@MuppetsStudio 80,000 followers
Actually I’m pretty sure it is these two. They used to hurl insults at the Muppets from their balcony on The Muppet Show, but now do it for all to read on Twitter….
Down and Out Rambo
@DownAndOutRambo 2200 followers (new!)
It’s Rambo, but as he implies, his career is washed up, he’s on dating sites, and spends nights in a corner bar, not in Vietnam.
Drunk Hulk
@DRUNKHULK 130,000 followers
The Incredible Hulk. But after a few too many pints. Obviously.
The Queen
@Queen_UK 540,000 followers
One can comment on what one feels is important for Britain and that pesky breakaway Scotland, hmmph.
Death Star PR
@DeathStarPR 171,000 followers
The PR firm for the fearsome giant laser planet from Star Wars. They argue that the Dark Side of the Force has a bit of a bad reputation and just needs a good spin doctor.
As I say, I’ve got more, which I’m not going to publish here. See some of the best for yourself in the Shorty Awards for Fake Twitter Accounts – have fun discovering!
