Moving home? Eliminate your stress with our six week plan
If you’re moving home soon, you’ll probably be somewhere along the emotional scale from mildly tense to completely hysterical. But it doesn’t have to be that way – follow our handy six week plan and you’ll get everything done in plenty of time – and we’ll make sure your phone line and broadband are up and running for when you move in to your new home.
OK – take a deep breath…
Six weeks before the move
- If you rent your home, now’s the time to give your landlord notice
- Check your home insurance – make sure you’re covered from your move day
- If you’re not using professional packers and removers, start asking friends to block out time to help you
- If you need temporary storage, now is the time to book it
- Let your water, gas and electricity suppliers know you’re moving
- Have a clear out – get rid of anything you no longer need and give any unwanted items to a charity shop, sell items on eBay, book a slot at a car boot sale, or offer items to your friends
- If you need new carpets or furniture, order them now so they’ll be ready for when you move in
Three weeks before the move
- Give us a call to let us know you’re moving so we can get your phone and broadband moved to your new home. Visit www.bt.com/movinghome to find out more
- Start packing non-essential items into boxes – it’ll save you time later
- Tell your doctor, dentist and optician if you’re moving out of the area
- If you have milk or food delivered regularly, let your suppliers know your move date
Two weeks before the move
- If you need someone to look after children or pets, arrange this now
- Make a list of everyone who should know about the move and start contacting them
- Arrange a time to collect your keys from the estate agent
Make sure your removal firm has all the right details about your new home
The day of the move
- Relax, take a deep breath – you’ve done it. You’re going to be fine!
