Deddington in Oxfordshire is going to be the first place in the UK where everyone can get access to our faster, fibre-optic broadband.

Over the next nine or ten months, we’ll be working with Openreach (the division of BT that manages the UK’s phone and broadband network) to provide broadband and phone services over fibre in the area. That means from early 2013 all customers will be able to opt for our fibre-optic service BT Infinity; and get super-fast broadband up to 100Mb.

We’re going to keep on providing services over the current network for the time being. So if customers don’t want to move to fibre when it becomes available around early 2013, they won’t need do anything.‪‬

What does this mean for Deddington customers?

• The whole of the exchange area will be upgraded this year.
• Customers should be able to purchase BT Infinity from Jan 2013.
• There will be minimum disruption as infrastructure is upgraded.

Frequently asked questions

What is happening?
The Deddington exchange is being upgraded to offer fibre-to the premises (FTTP) technology to all customers. This is a huge step forward for those connected to this exchange and it will ensure a significant increase in broadband speeds and even more reliable communications.

Why Deddington?
Deddington offers us the chance to examine how fibre-based communications will work in the future. Ducting in the area enables us to lay fibre relatively simply and quickly.

What is BT hoping to establish from this?
We are providing fibre services on a larger scale than ever before in one area. We want to show how people at home and in their businesses can benefit from even more advanced technology.

Is BT doing this elsewhere?
It really depends on Openreach’s plan. We expect to be briefed on these as time goes on.

Will it work?
Fibre has been with us for some time, we know that it works. This is the first time that a whole exchange area will have been covered.

What are the benefits of the BT Infinity service?
BT Infinity uses the latest fibre-optic broadband technology to deliver the internet at ground-breaking speeds. Instead of sending electric signals through copper wires, BT Infinity sends information down a glass network at the speed of light to give a faster, smoother experience.

Update: added 4th January 2013

Great News, the first customers in the Deddington exchange can now order BT Infinity. Customers can go to our BT Infinity website to check if it is currently available to them. If not we expect the number of homes able to access Infinity will increase in the coming weeks as the network roll out continues. So keep checking back on the BT Infinity website.
