Openreach engineer Steve Hall wows Britain’s Got Talent judges
Openreach’s Steve Hall has become a TV and internet sensation after wowing the audience and judges with a hysterical dance performance on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent.
His dream now is to win the competition and with it the £100,000 prize and the opportunity to perform in front of the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance.
Steve’s two-minute comedy routine included The Twist, The Macarena, Thriller, The Birdie Song and Britney Spears before he ripped off his trousers to reveal knee length socks for Riverdance.
The video of his act has already attracted more than 1.4 million hits on YouTube.
Steve, 53, a BT Openreach engineer, now faces an anxious wait until 28 May when the judges will reveal whether they are putting him through the live finals.
They gave him three “yeses” at his televised audition at the Liverpool Empire – and the audience gave him a standing ovation.
Rehearsing like mad
Steve said:
“The response from the public has been fantastic. I am becoming well known in my home town of Kendal and my friends and Openreach colleagues are enjoying the knock-on success and attention my TV appearance is creating.
“I’m not a dancer but I do take part in amateur dramatic productions. The TV show made it look as if I had just walked in off the street to perform but in fact I had previously entered competitions with a similar routine.
“The best I achieved was third place and a £250 prize in Southport’s Got Talent. Being discovered and becoming a star is something I have always dreamed of.”
In the hope of reaching the finals, Steve is now working on developing his routine by rehearsing on the laminate floor of his tiny kitchen.
