Own an Android smartphone? Want to win an iPad 2? Then volunteer for BT’s UK-wide Wi-fi trial.

We want to recruit 400 UK wide volunteers. No technical expertise required.

Volunteers will be asked to install an application on their smartphone and leave it running for up to four weeks to gather data on the availability of nearby Wi-fi networks.

The BT team will compare the results to a similar study from 2010. The findings will help us understand the coverage of our public Wi-fi network, assess demand, and improve.

BT now has over three million Wi-fi hotspots in the UK and Ireland. With the acceleration of Wi-fi-enabled devices such as smartphones and tablets, it’s important that we undertake consumer research like this to help us improve our service for all mobile users.

BT completed a study last year which provided valuable information, helping us understand the market and plan our business strategy.

Participants in the survey will be entered into a free prize draw for an iPad 2 and a pair of tickets to see Arsenal vs. Manchester City in the BT hospitality box at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday 7th April 2012
